Yes, John and myself are off to Texas and we're taking with us a wad of cash to make sure the SXSW Web Awards night goes off just fine. Which is my clumsy, even vulgar way of saying that Style Master is sponsoring the Web Awards Night at SXSW this year. So, if you're going to be there make sure you don't miss the free nosh on Sunday night at the Hilton. But it's not all about food and drink. With hundreds of high quality entrants (last year's best in show was Dave Shea's fantastic CSS Zen Garden), across a broad range of categories, the Web Awards are fast becoming the equivalent of the Emmys for web designers and developers.
For myself I'm also going to be speaking on a panel convened by Molly, whose title is Where are the women of Web Design? So, when you tire of the relentless go round of "Flash for Whitegoods", "Blogging for Grandma" and "Branding: Iron or Irony?" you'll be delighted at the prospect of seeing Eric Meyer getting hammered by a bunch of girls. Actually, Molly has promised me that won't be the nature of the event, and she's also promised that Eric won't be wearing a dress. So, if you want to see a range of opinions on why there aren't enough women putting their heads above the barricade in web design, and maybe even put your oar in yourself, then don't miss Molly's panel.
And, I know I don't have to tell you this, but, if you miss Malcolm Gladwell speak on Sunday afternoon you will become a social pariah with nothing of value to add to any conversation you have with anyone (except waxing technicians of course) ever again.
Now I think about it, that goes for Molly's panel as well.
So, if you're going to be in Austin in a month and would like to buy John or myself a drink as a small token of appreciation for all the joy we have brought to your life over the years, do be sure to get in touch. We'd love to meet up. I'll be the one wearing one of those really lame pink straw cowboy hats.
Mmmm... getting hammered by girls...
I'm sorry, I drifted off there for a second. What did I miss?

I have never seen much sense in going to such events. But it sounds fun!! I wish I could go there nex year, and probably, I will get you a drink :-P
